I own a Garmin 60cx and have purchased a few maps to use on it such as North America, Western Canada topography map for hiking and Australia and New Zealand, we used it last year for our trip down under.
Central America is a different beast altogether. It seems that Garmin hasn't a map for the region and that fact led me on a search for another option. What I found was a website called Cenrut.org. This explanation originates directly from the website, "CenRut is a community-based project to create and freely distribute GPS
maps of Central America. The project covers El Salvador, Costa Rica,
Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Panama."
The website is primarily in Spanish and navigating the menus wasn't as clear as I would have liked. However I found a page that was in English and explained how to install the maps on my GPS device. It was relatively straight forward to install with the few hiccups I encountered with software issues on my end. The maps look quite good and I think they will be very helpful to us during our journey. I also added the maps to my Android phone following the directions on the website, so now we have a backup GPS for our trip as well.
I recommend the website and may followup on the usability of the maps during or after our trip.
Cenrut 3.0 has been released and is a big improvement.
